What You’ll Learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand piping engineering fundamentals and its role in oil & gas, power, petrochemical, and process industries.
  • Interpret and create P&IDs with confidence, including line numbering, symbols, and equipment tags.
  • Apply global codes & standards (ASME B31.1, B31.3, ASME Section VIII, API, ASTM, ISO, NORSOK) in real projects.
  • Identify and select piping components & materials (pipes, flanges, valves, fittings, gaskets) for different services and conditions.
  • Develop piping layouts & plot plans for pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, columns, vessels, tanks, and pipe racks.
  • Use 3D modeling and design software (E3D, SP3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks) to route and review piping systems.
  • Prepare and check piping isometric drawings with correct dimensions, elevations, welds, and material take-offs.
  • Perform piping stress and flexibility analysis using CAESAR II or AutoPIPE, including nozzle loads, expansion loops, and support selection.
  • Design and evaluate piping supports (guides, anchors, hangers, snubbers, spring supports) for static and dynamic loads.
  • Understand fabrication and construction requirements including spool drawings, welding, NDT, hydrotesting, and tie-ins.
  • Coordinate across disciplines (process, civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, safety) for complete project execution.
  • Review vendor documents and data sheets for valves, specialty items, and equipment nozzles.
  • Ensure quality, safety, and compliance during design, fabrication, and site execution.
  • Plan and support pre-commissioning & commissioning activities such as flushing, reinstatement, walkdowns, and punch lists.
  • Apply piping knowledge in real-world case studies from offshore platforms, FPSOs, refineries, and petrochemical plants.
  • Develop a career roadmap in piping engineering — from junior designer to lead engineer — with insights into certifications and future industry trends.
